[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Samsung Electronics has decided to administer Moderna vaccines internally to its employees starting from the end of next month. The vaccination within Samsung's workplaces is gaining momentum, beginning with Samsung Display.
On the 25th, Samsung Electronics announced internally that, in consultation with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, it will begin internal vaccination at workplaces from the 27th of next month. The target includes employees aged 18 to 59 and resident partner company staff at workplaces with in-house clinics, such as Samsung Electronics' Suwon plant, as well as Gumi, Gwangju, Giheung, Hwaseong, Pyeongtaek, and Cheonan.
The vaccinations will be conducted using the Moderna vaccine through the workplace clinics. Applications for vaccination will be accepted starting from the 28th. The second dose will be administered at least four weeks after the first dose.
Samsung Electronics explained, "The internal vaccination is being implemented to contribute to the early achievement of herd immunity nationwide, in line with the government's vaccination schedule for those aged 18 to 59." However, employees in other departments without in-house clinics must receive vaccinations individually.
Among Samsung affiliates, Samsung Display was the first to officially announce internal vaccination for employees on the 23rd. From the 27th of next month, Moderna vaccines will be administered to employees aged 18 to 59 and resident partner company staff working at Samsung Display's Asan 1, Asan 2, Giheung, and Cheonan plants. The Giheung and Cheonan plants, which lack in-house clinics, are classified as vaccination targets under Samsung Electronics Device Solutions (DS) in-house clinics.
The first dose vaccination period is from July 27 to August 18, and the second dose period is from August 25 to September 17. Samsung Display will start accepting vaccination applications from employees and resident partner company staff from today.
Other Samsung affiliates that currently have in-house clinics capable of internal vaccination are also likely to officially announce workplace vaccinations soon. Samsung SDI and others have already begun expanding infrastructure for internal vaccination by recruiting medical staff.
Additionally, other major companies such as SK Hynix and LG Display are also considering internal vaccination. Previously, health authorities announced plans to begin COVID-19 vaccinations at major production sites of companies through workplace medical facilities such as in-house clinics starting around August.
