[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan Fire Safety Headquarters (Chief Choi Mincheol) announced on the 24th that it will actively promote the establishment of an ‘AI-based 119 Emergency Call Reception System’ that analyzes 119 emergency call conversations using artificial intelligence to enable situation room staff to respond quickly to disaster situations.
Most 119 emergency calls involve urgent and rushed conversations due to critical on-site situations, making it difficult to accurately report details and assess the disaster scene, which can significantly affect the scale of damage depending on the initial response.
The intelligent system being developed automatically recognizes the caller’s voice, extracts key keywords such as disaster location and intent of the report, and helps situation room staff quickly and accurately understand the report content by visual means.
Through this, it is expected to shorten the 119 call reception processing time and secure the golden time, thereby more effectively protecting citizens’ lives, property, and safety.
Choi Mincheol, Chief of the Gwangju Fire Safety Headquarters, said, “It is very meaningful that Bitgoeul Gwangju, advancing as an AI-centered city, is the first nationwide to introduce AI technology into the 119 emergency call reception system,” and added, “We will continue to improve the 119 emergency call reception system to make Gwangju a safer city.”
