[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 24th that it will begin distributing the 'Temporary Livelihood Support Fund' from the 25th to low-income households experiencing economic difficulties such as income reduction due to COVID-19.
The eligibility for the Temporary Livelihood Support Fund includes households whose income this year has decreased compared to 2019 or last year, but who have not received existing welfare benefits or other damage support, with a standard median income of 75% or less and assets of 600 million KRW or less.
Gwangju City anticipated that many citizens might not apply due to lack of awareness of the program, and has been actively promoting and identifying eligible households through one-on-one guidance with autonomous districts, sending text messages, producing and distributing card news and promotional videos.
As a result, by the 4th, over 33,000 households had completed applications for the Temporary Livelihood Support Fund, and after procedures such as income and asset investigation, verification of overlapping support from other projects, and review, approximately 26,000 households were finally selected as beneficiaries.
The city plans to provide 500,000 KRW on the 25th to households that have not received other support funds, and 200,000 KRW difference on the 28th to households eligible for small-scale farm voucher support.
Park Hyang, Director of the Welfare and Health Bureau of the city, said, “Thanks to active promotion and high public interest, we have been able to support the Temporary Livelihood Support Fund to more citizens,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to support low-income groups left in blind spots.”
