70% of Gyeonggi Province Youth Interested in 'Housing, Asset Building, and Employment'

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] A survey found that 70% of young people living in Gyeonggi-do are highly interested in self-reliance support policies such as housing, asset formation, and jobs/startups.

Gyeonggi-do announced on the 24th that it compiled the "Gyeonggi-do Youth Policy Vision Establishment Public Deliberation White Paper" by synthesizing the results of the first and second public opinion surveys and the first and second deliberation discussions conducted from December last year to April this year, targeting 10,248 residents aged 19 to 34 in the province.

The province explained that this public deliberation process was conducted to gather the voices of young people following the enactment of the Youth Basic Act last year.

The public deliberation process proceeded in the order of the first public opinion survey (5,000 people) in December last year, the first deliberation discussion (55 people) in January this year, the second public opinion survey (5,000 people) in March, and the second deliberation discussion (193 people) in April.

Key results from the public deliberation process showed that in the first public opinion survey, when asked about policies they wanted to discuss, young people mainly chose self-reliance support policies such as housing (38.8%), employment (27.9%), asset formation (14.1%), and startups (6%).

This trend continued into the first deliberation discussion, where interest in policy areas was high for housing (29.1%), asset formation (23.6%), and jobs (21.8%).

In the second public opinion survey, the top areas remained employment/startups (27.6%), housing (27.4%), and asset formation (24.3%). Other opinions included youth policy participation (11.2%) and expansion of youth spaces (9.1%).

Based on these results, the young participants in the public deliberation process selected the vision for Gyeonggi-do youth policy as "Gyeonggi Changing My Life, Gyeonggi Youth Self-Reliance" and the slogan as "Youth Filling Tomorrow, Gyeonggi Drawing Dreams."

The province plans to establish and implement a basic youth policy plan based on the policy directions and vision proposed by the youth.

The public deliberation white paper is scheduled to be distributed to cities, counties, and the general public next month.

Jung Hyun-ah, head of the Youth Welfare Policy Division of the province, emphasized, "The greatest achievement of this public deliberation survey is that the youth themselves decided the youth policy vision through discussion," adding, "We will continue to think and communicate together with young people to solve youth issues."
