26th Environment Day Commemoration 'Seongbuk-gu Environmental Love Drawing Contest' Awards Ceremony

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) held an awards ceremony for the "Seongbuk-gu Environmental Love Drawing Contest" on the 23rd at the district office multipurpose hall in celebration of the 26th Environment Day.

The awards ceremony was scaled down by strictly adhering to COVID-19 prevention guidelines, limiting participants to one awardee and one guardian each.

The contest awards were divided into lower elementary and upper elementary categories, with a total of 315 works submitted: 205 in the lower elementary category and 110 in the upper elementary category.

As the contest was held to encourage many children and adolescents to take an interest in environmental issues and raise awareness about environmental conservation, the participants' fresh ideas could be seen through their works. The theme focused on current societal issues such as marine litter, ecosystem destruction, and the overuse of plastics, expressing the seriousness of environmental problems in various ways.

The judging was conducted fairly by inviting external experts as judges. A total of 14 winners were selected: one grand prize winner, two excellence awardees, and four encouragement awardees in each category.

The winning works will be exhibited for about two weeks starting June 22 at the Wind Yard Music Fountain of Seongbuk-gu Office.

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, "Seeing the students' drawings today, I deeply empathized with the environmental issues as perceived by the future generation growing up," and added, "We will devise various green policies to pass on an eco-friendly city and take the lead in solving environmental problems."
