[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) will operate the ‘2021 Geumcheon-gu Climate Change Response Leader Training Program’ from July 7 to 23 to enhance the climate change adaptation capacity of Geumcheon-gu residents and promote low-carbon living.

This training will feature lectures by experts in related fields such as Lee Jin-ah, Officer at the Korea Meteorological Administration; Lim Jong-hwan, Director at the National Institute of Forest Science; Kang Min-su, Director at the Korea Energy Agency; and Jo Moon-gi, Team Leader at the Korea Recycling Resource Distribution Support Center. Topics include ‘Scientific Understanding of Climate Change,’ ‘Carbon Offset of Forests and Climate Change Impact and Adaptation,’ ‘Principles and Current Technologies of Renewable Energy Generation,’ and ‘Carbon Neutral Society and Resource Circulation.’

The training will be held every Wednesday and Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Geumcheon-gu Office Main Auditorium (12th floor) from July 7 to 23.

Participants who attend at least 9 out of the 12 sessions will receive a certificate of completion. Graduates who pass a separate evaluation will have the opportunity to observe classes and assist as teaching assistants for a certain period, eventually becoming instructors for programs such as ‘Bangapda! Geumcheon Eco Classroom.’

The program is open to a total of 40 participants, including members of environmental organizations or Seoul residents interested in environmental fields (Geumcheon-gu residents are given preference).

Residents wishing to participate can download the application form from the Geumcheon-gu Office website, fill it out, and submit it by June 30 via mail (Geumcheon-gu Office Environmental Division, 70, Siheung-daero 73-gil, Geumcheon-gu) or email (hj2805@geumcheon.go.kr).

Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon of Geumcheon-gu said, “In order to respond to the climate change crisis that has become a reality, nationwide interest and the role of climate change response leaders who will take the lead are urgently needed. We hope residents will show great interest and participate in this green leader training program that will lead education and promotional activities in the fields of climate, environment, and energy.”
