This on-site inspection was carried out as part of an emergency check on Coupang logistics warehouses under construction in the jurisdiction following the recent fire at the Coupang logistics warehouse in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do.

Chief Choi Mincheol listened to explanations from related personnel regarding the installation status of temporary fire-fighting facilities at the construction site and the progress of fire-fighting work inside the logistics warehouse, and directly confirmed the on-site situation to inspect fire risk factors and response systems.

In particular, after the completion of the logistics warehouse, he emphasized strict compliance with safety rules regarding the operation of fire-fighting facilities, such as prohibiting the closure of sprinkler and indoor fire hydrant piping.

Chief Choi stated, “There are cases where logistics warehouse personnel arbitrarily manipulate fire-fighting facilities out of concern for repair damage caused by malfunctioning fire-fighting equipment,” and added, “We will prevent such situations in advance through continuous fire-fighting facility inspections and guidance for related personnel at logistics warehouses in the jurisdiction.”

Meanwhile, the city Fire Safety Headquarters has been conducting special fire inspections and joint fire drills targeting 37 logistics warehouses in the jurisdiction from the 21st of last month until the 16th of next month to prevent fires.
