[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Dong-joo] Seo Young-kyo, Chairperson of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee, approved the so-called Substitute Holiday Act, which expands the application of substitute holidays, during the committee's plenary session on the 23rd.

The bill expands substitute holidays, which were previously applied only to Chuseok, Seollal, and Children's Day, to all holidays that fall on weekends, including Liberation Day, National Foundation Day, Hangul Day, and Christmas. If this bill is passed during the June extraordinary session of the National Assembly, people will have a day off on August 16, the day after Liberation Day, and October 4, the day after National Foundation Day.

Since Hangul Day and Christmas fall on Saturdays, the following weekdays, October 11 and December 27 respectively, will be designated as substitute holidays.

However, workplaces with fewer than five employees are excluded from the application of this law.

Members of the People Power Party abstained from voting on this point, citing unfairness, resulting in the bill being adopted solely by the ruling party.
