[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] Park Beom-gye, Minister of Justice, emphasized the "harmony between prosecutorial reform and organizational stability" regarding the mid-level prosecutor personnel appointments.
On the morning of the 23rd, as he arrived at the Ministry of Justice Government Gwacheon Building, Minister Park met with reporters and, when asked about the criteria and principles for mid-level prosecutor appointments, said, "The basic stance is clear," adding, "It is a direction that can be described abstractly as internal reform within the prosecution and revitalization of organizational culture."
The Ministry of Justice plans to hold a Prosecutor Personnel Committee meeting at 2 p.m. that day to review promotions and transfers of mid-level prosecutors. The Ministry usually announces personnel decisions on the day of or the day after the Prosecutor Personnel Committee meeting.
However, regarding the timing of the personnel appointments, Minister Park said, "Nothing has been decided yet," and added, "Please wait to see the results of the Personnel Committee, whether it will be this week or early next week."
When asked whether the personnel announcement would be made before the prosecutorial organizational reform is submitted to and passed by the Cabinet meeting on the 29th, he said, "The organizational reform plan and personnel appointments are linked," and "The order should naturally be taken into consideration."
Meanwhile, regarding the timing of the appointment of a successor to former Deputy Minister of Justice Lee Yong-gu, who resigned over the 'taxi driver assault' incident, he said, "The President is handling it, and I understand it is in progress." When asked if the successor would be from a prosecutorial background, he did not respond.
