Providing Sound Information Subtitles in Movies and Producing E-Books for the Visually Impaired: 'Barrier-Free'

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] LG Display announced on the 23rd that it will produce and distribute 'barrier-free' cultural content to support the cultural life of people with disabilities.
Barrier-free is a movement to break down physical and institutional barriers to create a society where the elderly and people with disabilities can live comfortably. In the field of culture and arts, it commonly refers to adding audio descriptions or subtitles to existing productions so that people with visual and hearing impairments can enjoy various content without inconvenience.
LG Display created barrier-free cultural content including 15 recommended films and 50 e-books. Over 200 volunteers participated in content production. They used weekends and other times over a month to add subtitle information for sounds in films and to review e-books for the visually impaired by converting general books into digital audio.
All barrier-free content will be made available online. Two feature films for the hearing impaired, including 'Janjitnal', will be screened online, and the remaining films can be viewed on online movie platforms 'Filmovie' and 'Indieground'. E-books are provided through the visually impaired exclusive digital library system 'iFree'. LG Display covers all content usage fees for the films and books.
Kim Mi-jung, a manager of LG Display's Business Innovation Group who participated in the film subtitle work, said, "I hope barrier-free books and films provide comfort to people with disabilities."
