[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 23rd that it will strengthen partnerships with government agencies and social ventures for eco-friendly social contribution projects.

On the 22nd, Hyundai Motor signed the "People's Forest" agreement for the active use and management of national forest spaces together with the National Natural Recreation Forest Management Office, an agency under the Korea Forest Service, and the tree-planting specialized social venture "Tree Planet" at the National Sinseodo Natural Recreation Forest in Gunsan, Jeonbuk.

They had signed an agreement in April to create an eco-friendly forest trail within the National Sinseodo Natural Recreation Forest, and based on this, they established the eco-friendly experience space "IONIQ Forest" at the National Sinseodo Natural Recreation Forest.

The National Sinseodo Natural Recreation Forest, which opened in March, is the largest national recreation forest in Korea (approximately 120 hectares, about one-third the size of Yeouido). It is characterized as the country's first "carbon emission-free eco-friendly natural recreation forest," operating through renewable energy use utilizing the marine environment and restricting exhaust gas emissions within the forest.

Hyundai Motor and others planted a total of 2,300 evergreen trees, including 300 camellia trees, 1,000 hydrangeas, and 1,000 azaleas, along a 150-meter section on both sides of the "Solar Observatory" trail within the recreation forest to create the forest path.

In this process, the National Natural Recreation Forest Management Office provided and managed the forest site, Hyundai Motor supported the project costs for creating the forest path, and Tree Planet was responsible for planting the forest path.

The three parties plan to further strengthen mutual cooperation through the newly signed "People's Forest" agreement. They will support eco-friendly volunteer activities such as tree planting for forest and marine ecosystem restoration and coastal waste collection by Hyundai Motor employees and volunteers in collaboration with the local community, and operate participatory programs including eco-friendly mobility experience activities using the IONIQ 5 vehicle.

A Hyundai Motor official said, "IONIQ Forest is Hyundai Motor's representative eco-friendly social contribution activity operated since 2016 with the participation of customers and local communities," adding, "With the second season of IONIQ Forest, we expect to comfort customers weary from COVID-19 and provide more diverse eco-friendly experiences."
