Affordable Phones Meet Live Commerce... LG HelloVision Sells SIM Cards for 100 Won

[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] LG HelloVision is increasing its touchpoints with subscribers in their 20s to 40s through budget phone live commerce.

LG HelloVision announced that it will hold a live commerce event called ‘Hello LIVE’ at 8 PM on the 23rd. Hello Mobile USIM cards, originally priced at 8,800 KRW, will be sold for ‘100 KRW’ along with various benefits. Through the ‘Online Consultation Room’ hosted by a tech specialist show host and long-term budget phone subscribers among employees, real-time solutions to communication cost concerns of the MZ generation will be provided.

The featured product is the Hello Mobile 100 KRW USIM. It is a budget phone USIM card originally priced at 8,800 KRW, and after purchase, customers can freely subscribe to any Hello Mobile USIM plan. Viewers can purchase the USIM for 100 KRW via the purchase link during the broadcast and enjoy free shipping. The broadcast will run for about 80 minutes on ‘Naver Shopping Live.’

The USIM usage method is simple. Customers enter the USIM card serial number on the direct mall, subscribe to their desired USIM plan, and complete ‘self-activation’ within 5 minutes. Especially, during June, if customers subscribe to popular Hello Mobile unlimited data plans such as ‘Unlimited 33 USIM,’ they can also enjoy a ‘maximum 150GB additional data promotion’ benefit.

LG HelloVision prepared the live commerce to increase skinship with the MZ generation, the core customer base for budget phones. As of May, the proportion of subscribers in their 20s to 40s among all Hello Mobile USIM subscribers exceeded 60%, and through live broadcasts infused with humor and empathy codes, they communicate with this group in real time to break down prejudices against budget phones.

During the live commerce, customized plan recommendations and tips for saving on communication costs will be provided. Professional consultations are also expected through a collaboration between tech show host Bonggeun Sung and Hello Mobile employees currently using the service.

Meanwhile, the eye-catching benefits for live viewers include additional perks. Customers who purchase and activate a USIM during the broadcast will receive a ‘Starbucks tumbler’ in addition to existing Hello Mobile subscription benefits, and five winners will be drawn to receive ▲Dyson Airwrap ▲AirPods 2. Additionally, 20 viewers who participate in quizzes and purchase verifications during the broadcast will be drawn to receive ▲Starbucks coffee coupons ▲Mi Band 5.

Han Jeong-ho, head of LG HelloVision’s mobile business division, said, “As the trend of ‘self-supplied phone + USIM’ combinations is emerging among the MZ generation, we prepared this opportunity to align with their perspective, broaden understanding of budget phones, and break down psychological entry barriers. Moving forward, we will communicate more multidimensionally with this generation and lead young and trendy product and service innovations.”

Meanwhile, LG HelloVision’s live commerce has been evolving as a distribution channel since its first launch in February. By incorporating entertainment elements such as collaborations with celebrities and real-time quizzes, it provides opportunities to indirectly experience the company’s services (broadcasting, internet, rental). Subscription applications are steadily increasing, centered on the 20s to 40s age group.
