Nowon-gu, Book Delivery Service to Your Desired Location

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is implementing the ‘Ddingdong! Book Delivery Service’ for residents who find it difficult to visit during library hours.

The ‘Ddingdong! Book Delivery Service’ is a project that delivers requested books by courier to homes or workplaces for those who have difficulty using library materials, such as people with disabilities, pregnant women, and office workers.

The aim is to create a book culture environment where a wider range of people can enjoy reading by enhancing convenience in borrowing books.

The district is currently recruiting users ahead of the pilot operation in July.

The first recruitment period is until June 30, and applicants can apply for the service after signing up on the Nowon-gu Public Library website.

The target applicants are residents who have difficulty using the library, and about 1,500 people will be selected. Notification of selection will be individually sent on July 1 along with instructions on how to use the service.

The book delivery service can be applied for once a month, up to five times a year. Up to seven books from the Nowon Information Library collection can be borrowed per application, and the borrowed books can be received at the desired delivery location within 2-3 days after application.

The loan period is up to 21 days, including the delivery date.

Books can be returned using the return service where the courier collects them by visiting, or by returning them at the desk or unmanned return box at Nowon Information Library (Sanggye 10-dong).

After this year’s pilot operation, the district plans to expand the service from next year to allow returns at 10 public libraries and 25 small libraries in the area.

Delivery is handled by the Seoul Nowon Regional Self-Support Center in the area. The district stated that while seeking a fast and convenient book lending service, it found common ground with the Seoul Nowon Regional Self-Support Center, which was looking for new delivery business targets, leading to the implementation of this project.

The district expects that by revitalizing the book delivery service, it will contribute to creating a comfortable reading environment and generating local jobs through continuous and stable delivery services.

Meanwhile, the district is striving to create a reading-friendly environment by discovering and providing various book lending services such as ‘Safe Book Lending,’ a non-face-to-face book lending service in response to COVID-19, and ‘Neighborhood Bookstore Direct Lending,’ which allows borrowing desired books from local bookstores.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “As literacy for information analysis and active thinking is emphasized recently, interest in reading is rising,” adding, “We will do our best to provide various library services so that everyone can conveniently make reading a part of their daily lives and create a reading-friendly Nowon.”
