[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jucheol In] Gyeongbuk Province introduced six types of insect-based foods jointly developed with a specialized food company on the 22nd at the provincial government cafeteria.
In October last year, the province signed a memorandum of understanding with S Food, a meat processing specialist company, to revitalize the insect industry distribution and jointly worked on developing edible insect raw materials to reduce consumer aversion.
The newly introduced products are high-protein foods that mix edible insect raw materials with traditional meats and grains, designed to allow consumers to intake protein and nutrients at once.
Among the six types?Meat Cube, Mini Tteokgalbi, Granola Bar, Madeleine, Macadamia Cookie?2 to 3 products are planned for official release in September.
Going forward, consumer surveys, consultations with food industry trend experts, and test sales will be conducted sequentially.
Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, stated, "We will overcome the current limitations of the insect industry, foster its growth, and provide stable sales channels for farmers."
