Support for Humanities, Reading, and Cultural Programs for the Elderly
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Ojeong Library in Bucheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, has been selected for the '60+ Chaek Masil Gase' project, a reading, humanities, and cultural program support initiative for seniors organized by the Korean Library Association and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
This project is part of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's '2021 60+ Year of Books' initiative, targeting the elderly aged 60 and above. Ten public libraries nationwide, including Bucheon-si, have been selected to operate a pilot program for the first time this year.
Accordingly, Ojeong Library in Bucheon-si has named the project '60+ Chaekgwa Hamkke Oneuldo Bitnari!' and plans to conduct various humanities reading programs for seniors starting in July.
Through programs such as bibliotherapy for self-integration in old age, life autobiographies drawn as comics, and digital literacy education, the library aims to create a reading environment and improve quality of life through reading activities.
A library official stated, "We hope that seniors will become familiar with the library through this project, participate in beneficial reading activities with books, and that it will help alleviate psychological depression and prevent dementia."
For program schedules and detailed information, please visit the Bucheon City Library website or contact Ojeong Library.
