[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] The 75th National Ssireum Championship will be held from the 23rd to the 30th at Wontong Gymnasium in Buk-myeon, Inje-gun.


According to Inje-gun on the 22nd, this tournament will be divided into the men's team competition and seven individual weight classes, as well as three individual weight classes for women. From the preliminary rounds to the quarterfinals in all categories, matches will be single elimination, while the semifinals and finals will be best-of-three matches.


The finals of each weight class in the high school individual competition, as well as the team semifinals and finals held on the 24th, and the finals of each weight class in the elementary individual competition along with the team semifinals and finals on the 25th, will be broadcast live on KBS N.


In particular, the Wontong Elementary School Ssireum Team (12 players), recognized nationwide as a prestigious Ssireum powerhouse, is aiming for the championship, which is expected to increase the interest and participation of Inje residents, the host community.


Meanwhile, Inje County Governor Choi Sang-gi and Korea Ssireum Association President Hwang Kyung-soo plan to sign an MOU to hold the tournament in Inje-gun for three years starting next year and cooperate for the development of Korean Ssireum.


To prevent COVID-19, all participants and officials must submit a PCR negative test result or vaccination certificate, and spectators will be limited to 150 people after temperature checks, restricted to Inje residents.
