A Total of 35.3 Billion KRW Invested, Scheduled for Completion in 2024 as a Living SOC Convergence Facility... Expected to Enhance Residents' Quality of Life with Swimming Pool, Daycare Center, Library, Parking Lot, and More

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Chae Hyun-il) is constructing a public complex facility combining living SOC such as sports facilities, a library, and a daycare center within the residential area in Yangpyeong-dong. The facility will have 3 underground floors and 3 above-ground floors.

The planned construction site is a vacant lot at 323-1, Yangpyeong-dong 4-ga, which was previously used as a snow removal material warehouse. Geographically, it is adjacent to residential areas and semi-industrial zones along the Han River, and the walking distance around the project site includes densely populated residential areas with Dangsan Elementary School and Hangang Media High School.

While the area is convenient for public transportation and has a high floating population, it lacked resident convenience facilities. Accordingly, the district has established a plan to build a public complex facility with a total budget of 35.3 billion KRW and is focusing on the construction process to begin in August next year.

The public complex facility to be built this time will integrate living SOC, including sports facilities, a daycare center, a library, and parking lots, which is expected to significantly improve the quality of life for residents.

The district established the initial construction plan in 2019 and changed the original plan in 2020 to expand the swimming pool and increase the public parking lot. The revised plan passed the central investment review by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in June this year, confirming its feasibility.

In the first half of 2021, the district’s Urban Planning Committee conditionally approved the “Urban Planning Facility Decision Review for the Construction of the Yangpyeong-dong Public Complex Facility,” and after passing the Seoul Public Architecture Review consecutively, the architectural design competition is scheduled for July this year.

The Yangpyeong-dong public complex facility aims for completion in December 2024. It will be built on a 3,014.6㎡ site at 323-1, Yangpyeong-dong 4-ga, with 3 underground floors and 3 above-ground floors (total floor area 8,650㎡).

The 3rd basement floor will be an attached parking lot, and the 2nd basement floor will house a public parking lot with 59 spaces. The 1st basement floor will feature a swimming pool with 5 lanes, the 1st floor will have a daycare center and a community childcare sharing center, the 2nd floor will be a public library, and the 3rd floor will include a multipurpose gymnasium.

In particular, the swimming pool to be established here is expected to receive great support from nearby parents as an educational facility for survival swimming, which is a mandatory curriculum in elementary schools.

Additionally, the district plans to complete the Yeongdeungpo 3rd Sports Center in February 2024 at Daerim 3 Yusuji, a 3-story building equipped with a swimming pool (5 lanes), an alternative gymnasium, and a multipurpose gymnasium. The Anyangcheon Comprehensive Sports Belt is also progressing smoothly with a target completion in August this year.

The district expects that the expansion of indoor and outdoor sports facilities will activate community sports and, by hosting various sports competitions after the facilities are completed, will greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy and promoting the region.
