Jungnang-gu Accelerates Construction of Myeonmok Administrative Complex Town

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) has conducted an on-site inspection of the Myeonmok Administrative Complex Town design competition operation committee, signaling the start of the integrated development project.

On the afternoon of the 21st, the district held a meeting between the neighborhood association and the design competition operation committee to enhance understanding of the project and smoothly proceed with the design competition, providing an opportunity to gather opinions from local residents.

An on-site inspection was also conducted to officially begin the procedures.

The integrated development project of the Myeonmok Administrative Complex Town, a long-awaited project in the Myeonmok-dong area, is a large-scale project implemented together with the redevelopment of aging public office buildings to revitalize the area, including the nearby Youth Training Center and Hansarang Village Apartment site.

The main project includes demolishing old public office buildings and constructing a complex building combining the community center and residents' center, a youth training center, public housing (sale and happiness housing), commercial facilities, and a public parking lot.

▲ Administrative complex (residents' center, community center) ▲ Youth training center (sports, vocational experience spaces, hobby activities, etc.) ▲ Public housing and commercial facilities (neighborhood living facilities, experiential education facilities, youth startup support center, etc.) Upon completion, the project is expected to greatly improve residents' quality of life through modernization of public facilities and expansion of convenience facilities.

Previously, there were difficulties in advancing the project due to differences in opinions regarding the use of city-owned land and securing project funds, but after Seoul City, Jungnang-gu, and SH Corporation established a basic plan for joint cooperation through close consultations over more than a year, the project has regained momentum.

Additionally, reflecting local residents' opinions from last year to March this year, a revised basic plan was established to reduce the number of public rental housing units and add public sale housing to expand housing sizes, and re-negotiations with central government agencies are currently underway.

In particular, the public sale housing supplied through this project will be the first pilot implementation of equity accumulation-type sale housing in Seoul, with SH Corporation currently establishing detailed supply standards.

Demolition of the Hansarang Village Apartments within the project site is also underway. Since all residents moved out in June last year, the vacant Hansarang Village Apartments have been managed as empty buildings, raising concerns among residents about the area becoming a crime hotspot and safety accidents.

To resolve these inconveniences, the district has completed an agreement with Seoul City and SH Corporation to proceed with demolition, which is scheduled to begin within this year.

Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, stated, “We will actively strive through joint cooperation with Seoul City and SH Corporation to ensure the successful realization of the Myeonmok Administrative Complex Town integrated development project, which residents have long wished for.”
