Installing Kids Cafes in Each District of Seoul to 'Reduce Childcare Burden and Support Parenting Costs'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seoul Metropolitan Council member Jeong Ji-gwon (Democratic Party, Seongdong 2) requested on the 16th during the 301st regular session of the Seoul Metropolitan Council Transportation Committee, held for the Seoul Facilities Corporation business report, that a plan be considered to install and operate a kids cafe in the octagonal pavilion of Seoul Children's Grand Park, which has been vacant for several years.
On June 2nd, Council member Jeong proposed the installation of a kids cafe in Seongdong-gu during a breakfast meeting with Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, who responded positively at the time.
The octagonal pavilion at Seoul Children's Grand Park has been mostly vacant for nine years since 2013, except for occasional events or festivals, and the Seoul Facilities Corporation has been unable to present an operational plan for years, only continuing to review the matter.
Council member Jeong argued, "Installing and operating a kids cafe as a measure to overcome the prolonged vacancy of the octagonal pavilion at Children's Grand Park would align with the park's name and provide support to families with children, so active consideration by the Seoul Facilities Corporation is necessary."
Jeong Ji-gwon stated, "If two or more kids cafes are installed and operated in each district of Seoul, it could somewhat relieve childcare burdens and reduce childcare costs, greatly benefiting families raising children," adding, "We will continue to cooperate to ensure active support from the Seoul Metropolitan Government."
