POSCO Mid-Level Managers and Partner Company Executives Attend 'Safety and Environment Director Environmental Training'
Providing E-Learning Programs on Environmental Management to Carbon Neutrality
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] POSCO conducted environmental management capability enhancement training for both its direct operations and partner companies in preparation for strengthening environmental regulations.
From the 15th to the 17th, POSCO provided environmental education to 48 mid-level managers, including plant managers and leaders at the Gwangyang Steelworks, as well as 28 safety and environmental directors and executives from 14 partner companies in the Gwangyang area.
To maximize the effectiveness of the training, POSCO’s environmental departments directly taught the current status of environmental laws and explained the necessity of environmental management.
The curriculum commonly covered understanding environmental regulations by identifying current issues, enhancing the necessity of environmental management, improving comprehension of environmental laws in areas such as air quality, water quality, waste, and chemicals, and training on managing environmental management checklists.
Meanwhile, for mid-level managers such as steelworks leaders and plant managers who oversee the field, methods to effectively utilize the environmental management systems used in the plants were introduced. For partner company executives, the training focused on key management points based on easily overlooked cases during inspections of environmental facilities within business sites, providing education tailored to each participant’s role.
A POSCO official in charge of the training said, "The importance of environmental management is increasing not only in production but also for sustainable growth," adding, "We hope this training helps participants realize the importance of environmental management and join in creating a clean steelworks."
POSCO is making significant efforts to enhance employees’ environmental management capabilities through education.
Since May, POSCO has been upgrading and providing e-learning courses on the latest environmental laws, policies, and key points of environmental management. Employees working in departments related to operations, production, investment, and technology development are required to complete these courses. The purpose is to raise awareness of the environment and cultivate environmental management capabilities among personnel who hold the key to on-site environmental management.
The e-learning courses include education on environmental regulations and laws, as well as programs related to greenhouse gas emissions in line with the 2050 carbon neutrality declaration. Notably, the program is designed to internalize the necessity of carbon neutrality policies and strategies in response to the climate crisis through topics such as the Climate Change Agreement and global companies’ carbon neutrality strategies.
Going forward, POSCO plans to enhance employees’ environmental capabilities and awareness through e-learning and group training, striving to realize "Green with POSCO (a company protecting the environment together)" by leading the practice of 2050 carbon neutrality.
