Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Announces Policy Proposal Contest for the 5th Publishing Culture Industry Promotion Plan

[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that, together with the Korea Publication Industry Promotion Agency and the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute, it will hold a public policy proposal contest from the 21st to July 31st to establish the "5th Publication Culture Industry Promotion Plan" (2022?2026).

In accordance with Article 4 of the "Publication Culture Industry Promotion Act," the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism establishes a basic plan necessary for the promotion of the publication culture industry every five years. Currently, the 4th "Publication Culture Industry Promotion Plan" (2017?2021) is being implemented. This contest was organized to gather public opinions necessary for formulating the 5th plan, which will be implemented starting next year. The innovative and diverse ideas discovered through the contest will be used as basic data when establishing the 5th plan.

Any citizen interested in the publication culture industry can propose ideas for policies that need to be pursued over the next five years in areas such as publication production, distribution, and consumption, or suggest improvements to existing publication policies.

The proposal form can be downloaded from the websites of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Publication Promotion Agency, and the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute. Proposals will be accepted via email or through the "National Idea Box" until July 31st.

Among the submitted proposals, five experts in the publication field will evaluate them, and 40 proposers (10 outstanding, 30 encouraging) who receive high evaluations in terms of necessity and feasibility will be awarded cultural gift certificates.

A Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official stated, "The basic plan for promoting the publication culture industry is a project to draw a blueprint for the publication culture industry for the next five years," adding, "We hope to widely listen to the opinions of the public and the publishing industry through this contest."
