New Subscribers Increase 21 Times Compared to Other Monthly Plans
[Asia Economy Reporter Joeslgina] LG Uplus announced on the 21st that the cumulative viewing time of its IPTV service ‘U+tv’ monthly subscription ‘Super Pack’ surpassed 2 million hours within two months of its launch. During the same period, the number of new subscribers to the Super Pack was 21 times higher than other monthly subscription services.
The Super Pack is a monthly subscription priced at 19,800 KRW (VAT included) that allows unlimited access to a total of 100,000 contents ranging from terrestrial broadcast VOD such as Penthouse, movies, overseas series, animation, kids, to adult content. The company emphasized that U+tv is the only IPTV service offering a monthly subscription that gathers such a wide variety of genres in one package.
In particular, the ‘All Family Monthly Subscription’ concept, designed for a broad age range to enjoy, is analyzed to have driven the rapid growth in Super Pack viewing time, coinciding with the recent COVID-19 social distancing trend.
According to LG Uplus analysis, Super Pack users showed high usage rates evenly across genres, from terrestrial broadcast VOD to theatrical animation and movie content. A pattern of mixed viewing of various genres with different main user groups within a single household, such as ‘Penthouse 3’, ‘Fast & Furious: The Seven’, and ‘Minions’, was prominent.
Additionally, LG Uplus cited the seamless viewing function between IPTV and mobile TV as a background for the Super Pack’s popularity. It was found that more than 50% of Super Pack subscribers watch monthly subscription content by switching between U+tv and U+ Mobile TV.
Geon-Young Lee, Head of Media Business at LG Uplus (Executive Director), said, “Our unique services such as mobile seamless viewing and diverse genre composition combined with high-quality content like terrestrial broadcasts and movies created synergy,” adding, “We will continue to satisfy customers’ content thirst with various monthly subscriptions tailored to each user group.”
To express gratitude, LG Uplus will provide all Super Pack users with three VOD discount coupons weekly until the 30th. Additional VOD coupons and ice cream gift certificates will be offered based on content viewing frequency. Also, all new customers in June will receive VOD coupons and have a chance to win gift certificates through a lottery.
