Justice Party to Select Presidential Candidate in October... Final Schedule to Be Confirmed at August National Committee Meeting

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Justice Party has tentatively decided to select its candidate for the 2022 presidential election in October.

On the 20th, the Justice Party held a national committee meeting at the Seoul Women's Plaza in Daebang-dong, Dongjak-gu, Seoul, and reached this conclusion regarding the presidential candidate selection schedule.

Senior Spokesperson Lee Dong-young said, "The schedule for selecting the 20th presidential candidate has been tentatively set for October, and it will be finalized at the August national committee meeting." The basic plan for the presidential and local elections will also be approved at the August national committee meeting.

At the national committee meeting that day, a special resolution was adopted strongly condemning the Democratic Party's policy to ease comprehensive real estate tax and capital gains tax.

In the special resolution, the Justice Party criticized, "The Democratic Party has abandoned the war against speculation and surrendered to speculative forces," and "We condemn the Democratic Party's regression siding with real estate vested interests." It continued, "The Democratic Party is pushing through tax cuts for the wealthy, who make up less than 4% of comprehensive real estate tax payers, under the pretext of the presidential election, and has given up on stabilizing housing prices for the homeless common people," adding, "This is tantamount to declaring that the Democratic Party is a party only for the wealthy."

Senior Spokesperson Lee said, "The Justice Party will stand on the side of the more than 40% of homeless common people ignored by the ruling party, correct real estate inequality, and take the lead in dismantling the real estate speculation republic."

He also added, "As decided by the national committee, we will become a party that protects and takes responsibility for the lives of the vulnerable in our society, such as labor and housing weak groups, and develop into a competent and strong party that brings substantial change to citizens' lives, so that we can win the presidential and local elections."
