[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Choyoung] Moon Jun-yong, the son of President Moon Jae-in, was selected as a recipient of a 69 million KRW government grant, prompting People Power Party lawmaker Kim Woong to respond with "Yura, I'm sorry."
On the 19th, Kim left this comment on a Facebook post by Professor Seo Min, a professor at Dankook University College of Medicine, regarding Moon’s grant.
In a post titled "The Most Wronged Person in Our Country," Professor Seo wrote, "Artist Moon Jun-yong, who amazed the global art world with his genius sensibility," adding, "It is only natural that someone like him sweeps up domestic grants, but damn, it just so happens that the president is Moon Jae-in."
In response, Kim appeared to target the controversy over special favors for Jung Yoo-ra during the state affairs manipulation scandal by commenting, "Yura, I'm sorry." Professor Seo replied, "I am also a sinner in front of Yura."
Earlier, Moon announced on his Facebook, "I have been selected for a 69 million KRW grant from the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service’s 'Art and Technology Convergence Support Project,'" adding, "Out of 102 applicants, 15 were selected for amounts similar to mine."
He continued, "Art and technology convergence is a field I have worked in for a long time, so I applied with great care," and said, "Being chosen for this project is a great honor, and my profession is evaluated based on such achievements."
He added, "This is something to be congratulated on and proud of, but I worry that some may not see it that way," and said, "If there are opinions I need to respond to, I will. I will work hard to create good works this time."
Last December, it was revealed that Moon had been selected for the "Emergency Art Support for COVID-19 Damage" project and received 14 million KRW from the Seoul Metropolitan Government, which sparked controversy. At the time, Moon rebutted, "My work has been recognized even before I was the president’s son."
