[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] A Belgian court has reportedly ordered the multinational pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca (AZ) to deliver 50 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to the European Union (EU) by the end of September.
According to foreign media on the 20th, a court in Brussels, Belgium ruled in a lawsuit filed by the EU executive body, the European Commission, against AstraZeneca, that the company must deliver an additional 50 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine by September 27, including 15 million doses by July 26, 20 million doses by August 23, and 15 million doses by September 27, in addition to the 30 million doses already delivered to the EU.
This ruling follows the European Commission's lawsuit against AstraZeneca for failing to comply with the COVID-19 vaccine supply contract. AstraZeneca had previously announced that vaccine supply within the EU would be significantly reduced from the original plan due to production disruptions at its European factories.
