[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] As the government and quarantine authorities plan to ease the ban on private gatherings of five or more people starting next month and push for a return to normal life, major domestic companies are accelerating the resumption of global annual events that were canceled due to COVID-19.
According to the industry on the 20th, Samsung Electronics is actively considering holding the 'Samsung Developer Conference (SDC),' which showcases its IT-related development tools and services to global developers and partners, offline around October to November this year.
SDC is an annual event where developers, designers, content creators, and industry stakeholders gather to discuss and exchange ideas on next-generation technologies. Samsung Electronics also reveals its vision for new technologies and software. Since its inception in 2013, the event has been held annually around October to November in places like Silicon Valley, San Francisco, where global IT developers gather, but it was not held last year due to the spread of COVID-19. If the offline event is held this year, it is highly likely to be hosted again in Silicon Valley.
At the event held in Silicon Valley in 2019, over 5,000 partners, developers, and designers from around the world attended, where Samsung unveiled new development tools and services in various fields such as AI, IoT, user experience (UX), and security, along with its future vision. A Samsung Electronics official said, "It is true that we are internally discussing the resumption of the offline SDC," but added, "We are reviewing various scenarios such as holding both online and offline events or replacing it entirely with an online event depending on the COVID-19 situation, and nothing has been finalized yet."

Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Hyundai Motor to Participate Offline at CES in January Next Year
Separately, recently, leading domestic electronics companies such as Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have confirmed their participation in the offline exhibition of the world's largest IT and home appliance show (CES) held in the United States early next year. The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), the organizer of CES, recently posted on its website that "next year's CES will return to Las Vegas," announcing plans to hold both online streaming and offline exhibitions. The event will take place from January 5 to 8 next year in Las Vegas, USA.
Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have confirmed their participation in the offline exhibition and are preparing to showcase various new technologies such as TVs, new home appliances, and artificial intelligence (AI) robots. Not only these two companies but also global companies such as Amazon, AMD, AT&T, Google, Qualcomm, IBM, Intel, Lenovo, Panasonic, and Sony have expressed their intention to participate to the organizers. Additionally, global automobile companies such as Hyundai Motor and Daimler AG will also participate in CES to showcase future technologies.
Meanwhile, our government and quarantine authorities announced on the same day that a new 'social distancing' policy will be implemented starting July 1. The social distancing system will be simplified from the existing five levels to four levels, and restrictions on the number of people in private gatherings and the operation of multi-use facilities will be significantly eased. Accordingly, entertainment facilities in the metropolitan area, where Level 2 is expected to be applied, will resume operations after several months, and the operating hours of restaurants, cafes, karaoke rooms, and gyms will be extended by two hours from the current 10 PM to midnight. The allowed number of people for private gatherings will increase from the current four to six for the first two weeks (July 1?14), and then to eight thereafter. This is the first easing of the ban on private gatherings of five or more people in the metropolitan area since December 23 last year, about six months ago.
