Stone Mound Tomb with a Diameter of 30m
Explanatory Sessions and Artifact Exhibitions Held Five Times
The National Gyeongju Cultural Heritage Research Institute will hold an event titled "Crossing the Line into a Silla Tomb 1,500 Years Ago" on the 26th at the Jjoksaem Relics Excavation Hall in Gyeongju, where the excavation site of Jjoksaem Tomb No. 44 and major unearthed artifacts will be open to the public. The Jjoksaem site is a collective tomb of Silla royalty and aristocrats. A detailed excavation has been ongoing for eight years since 2014. Tomb No. 44, which has a diameter of 30 meters, is a stone-cist tomb. Outside the perimeter stones, large jars used for rituals and long-necked jars depicting horse-riding processions, dances, and hunting scenes were confirmed. Inside, a gilt-bronze crown, gold earrings, a chest ornament strung with gold and glass beads, silver belt decorations, and gold and silver bracelets and rings were found. Based on the luxurious jewelry, the tomb owner is presumed to be a female member of the Silla royal family.
The briefing sessions will be held five times, with a capacity of twenty people per session. Pre-registration by phone will be accepted from the 21st to the 23rd. On the 1st of next month, the event will be made available online through the National Gyeongju Cultural Heritage Research Institute's YouTube channel. An official stated, "This will be an opportunity to enhance understanding not only of the excellent Silla tomb culture but also of ancient culture."
