Summer Solstice Online Journey to French Music

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) will hold an online "French Music Festival" on the 21st in collaboration with the French Embassy in Korea.

In France, a large-scale music festival called F?te de la Musique is held every year on the summer solstice, where musicians perform various genres of music for free and interact with the audience. Around the same time, events sharing this spirit are held worldwide.

The district has hosted this festival annually at the end of June from 2017 to 2019 on Yonsei-ro in Sinchon, combined with the French Art Market, so that citizens can experience French culture and Korea and France can communicate through music.

This year, to maintain the continuity of the festival despite social distancing, instead of a street music festival, pre-recorded performance videos will be uploaded online.

The performances feature ▲Stella Jang, who has showcased diverse musical worlds after studying in France ▲Ubare, who released a French children's song album ▲Laure Mafo, a French-nationality pansori singer.

They will each perform for about 20 minutes, hosted by "Christina Yoon," who is active on French-related YouTube channels, sharing various stories about Korea and France.

The recordings took place at Sinchon Culture Development Center, GIZI Art Base in Yeonhui-dong, and Ewha Womans University Museum.

The online French Music Festival videos will be released on the 21st, the summer solstice, through Seodaemun-gu Office SNS and YouTube, the French Embassy in Korea SNS, the French Cultural Center in Korea YouTube, and music streaming platforms (Genie Music), and will be available for viewing anytime thereafter.

They will also be made available in France through the French Institute for Overseas Cultural Promotion and others.

Moon Seok-jin, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, said, "I hope this online French Music Festival brings happiness to many people and becomes a time for the two countries to grow closer through music."
