[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) attended the escalator opening ceremony held on the afternoon of the 15th at the concourse in front of Exit 4 of Seongsin Women's University Station on Subway Line 4.
The escalator at Exit 4 of Seongsin Women's University Station, where construction began last May, previously only had an upward escalator. However, to alleviate inconveniences for transportation-vulnerable individuals and residents, 1 billion KRW of Seoul city funds were secured to install two escalators for both upward and downward directions. The installation was completed this month, followed by a trial run, and officially opened on June 15.
Mayor Lee Seung-ro said, "Residents have experienced many inconveniences due to the lack of escalators, so I am pleased to see the opening today." He added, "We will continue to strive to install additional escalators or elevators at subway stations in the area." He also urged, "For a safe and happy daily life, please adhere to safety measures such as COVID-19 vaccinations and join in protecting everyone's health."
