[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] On the 19th, Jeong Jin-seok, a member of the People Power Party, asserted on his Facebook that the party name 'People Power Party' cannot be changed in relation to merger talks with the People’s Party. In response to the post, Lee Jun-seok, the leader of the People Power Party, showed agreement by leaving a 'Like'.
Jeong said, "Just because the merger with the People’s Party is important, it is not something to casually and easily change the party name of the People Power Party." He added, "The People Power Party has recently become a party that resonates with many citizens and has greatly raised expectations for a change of government." He criticized, "In this situation, it is excessive for Ahn Cheol-soo, the leader of the People’s Party, to suddenly demand a party name change, asking us to 'put ourselves in his shoes'."
Jeong also stated, "No external changes to the party name 'People Power Party' can be allowed," and "I hope Leader Ahn will make a concession this time." He further added that uniting behind the 'People Power Party' to complete the change of government is the path for the 'People’s Party' to win and for the people to win.

Meanwhile, Leader Lee and Leader Ahn recently reached a consensus on a swift merger but have been engaged in a tug-of-war over issues such as party name changes. Earlier, Leader Lee appeared on a radio show and said, "There is no reason to change the party name when party membership is surging and the party’s image is good," calling the People’s Party’s demand for a name change a 'new proposal.'
On the other hand, Cho Su-jin, a Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, expressed a different stance regarding the party name change. On the same day, Cho wrote on Facebook, "The People Power Party and the People’s Party differ by only one final character," and added, "Personally, I don’t mind if it’s 'People Power Dang' (Party). The party name issue will not be an obstacle at all." This implies that a party name change is possible for the merger with the People’s Party, differing from the opinions of Jeong and Leader Lee.
