[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Palestine has canceled its contract to transfer COVID-19 vaccines with Israel. This came after it was revealed that the expiration date of the COVID-19 vaccines Israel was supposed to provide was approaching.
On the 19th (local time), according to the Palestinian local media WAFA, the Palestinian Authority (PA) announced that it decided to cancel the transfer contract for 1 million doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines signed with Israel the previous day.
A PA spokesperson stated, "After inspecting 90,000 doses of Pfizer vaccines sent from Israel, they did not meet the technical standards, so the batch was returned," adding, "The Authority rejects vaccines with an imminent expiration date. We are waiting for vaccines purchased directly to be supplied in bulk directly from the manufacturer."
Earlier, Mai Alkaila, PA Minister of Health, revealed that Pfizer had proposed a method where Israel would first receive 1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and then return the same amount allocated to Palestine by the end of the year.
Regarding this, Minister Mai Alkaila elaborated, "After the relevant team received and inspected the initial batch, it was confirmed that the dosage did not meet the previously agreed technical specifications and the expiration date was near," adding, "Through PA Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh, we decided to cancel the deal."
