[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] A full COVID-19 screening test will be conducted on 950 police officers from 12 units of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency who were deployed at a rally held in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 15th and 16th, attended by about 4,000 members of the National Courier Workers' Union.
On the 18th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency stated, "During the recent courier workers' union rally, a large number of people gathered, raising concerns about the spread of infectious diseases. Therefore, tests were conducted on unit members who were dispatched and had close contact or showed suspicious symptoms such as fever." They added, "Four officers who worked on blocking broadcasting equipment were proactively tested, and all received negative results."
The Seoul Police Agency is conducting full screening tests on all 950 police officers deployed at the scene on that day, regardless of whether they showed suspicious symptoms.
According to the authorities on the same day, two union members belonging to the Post Office Headquarters of the Courier Workers' Union who participated in the Yeouido rally tested positive for COVID-19.
In a statement released that day, the union said, "According to the test results confirmed so far, the confirmed cases are two members from the same workplace, and all other personnel from that workplace, excluding the confirmed cases, tested negative." They continued, "Before moving, a list of all rally participants was prepared, temperature checks and hand sanitization were conducted, and branches with union members showing high fever symptoms were notified not to attend." They explained, "It was decided as a guideline to conduct COVID-19 tests on all participants immediately after the rally, and the testing is currently underway."
