Mirror, Mirror, What Is the Prettiest Outfit? University and Family Business Collaboration Brings AI 'Fashion Coordinator' to Life

Dongseo University and Samatdi Co., Ltd. Unveil 'AI-Based Fashion Smart Mirror'

Developing Services Like Personalized Clothing Recommendations Through Individual Analysis

<em>Mirror, Mirror, What Is the Prettiest Outfit?</em> University and Family Business Collaboration Brings AI 'Fashion Coordinator' to Life The fashion smart mirror, an AI-based coordinator developed through industry-academia cooperation between Dongseo University and family companies such as Samatdi, has been introduced to the world.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] #. Mirror, mirror, what is the most beautiful outfit in the world? When I entered a clothing store to buy clothes, the mirror greeted me. That mirror told me the color and style that suited me best.

A reality that could exist in the future is rapidly approaching.

A university and a family company have created a ‘fashion coordinator’ through industry-academic cooperation and introduced it to the world. However, the fashion coordinator who recommends the best style for each person is not a human but AI.

Dongseo University (President Jang Je-guk) LINC+ Project Group announced on the 18th that it jointly developed an ‘AI-based Fashion Smart Mirror’ in cooperation with its family company Samatdi Co., Ltd. and unveiled it on the 7th floor of Art Malling Busan Main Branch.

Centered on Professor Kim Hyung-sook, the LINC+ Project Group’s R&BD ICC (Industry Collaboration Center) collaborated with AI-based platform developer Samatdi Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Jong-hyuk), Art Malling operated by Fashion Group Hyungji (CEO Choi Byung-oh), and the Busan Talent Lifelong Education Promotion Agency’s ‘Local Issue Resolution University Class Support Project.’

They formed an industry-academic-research-government network and have been striving for creative new product development through continuous consultations.

The first product has been released. It is a creative product that revitalizes local offline stores, which have been stagnant due to changes in the distribution environment, and provides personalized services using artificial intelligence technology.

The original goal of the project was to nurture convergence-type talents who respond to changes in the era, and this is the first outcome toward achieving that goal.

The newly launched ‘AI-based Fashion Smart Mirror’ captures the user’s outfit and analyzes it in real time. It analyzes attributes and emotions such as type, color, material, and pattern, and the AI embedded in the product understands the user’s attire and recommends products sold within the shopping mall tailored to the customer’s preferences, acting as an AI fashion coordinator.

In addition to these functions, it informs the location of the store selling the recommended product, allows access to the online shopping mall via QR code, and enables adding products to the cart or making payments.

It also features a function that sends the analysis results of the user’s style via KakaoTalk message.

Additional results from the Class Selling course (professors Kim Hyung-sook and Yang Sung-won) opened in the Fashion Design Department at Dongseo University in the first semester of this year and the industry-academic joint technology development project will be added to continuously advance the service.

A Samatdi official explained that the AI-based Fashion Smart Mirror can integrate offline and online experiences.

He said, “Installing multiple units in a store can also enable unmanned operation.” He added, “After installation at Art Malling recently, it was analyzed that 500 to 600 people used it daily on weekends and holidays.”

Park Jae-sung, deputy manager of Art Malling, said, “We expect this to be the first step in providing customers with various attractions and linking online and offline sales,” and added, “If service advancement leads well beyond customer curiosity to actual sales, it will become a new sales channel.”

Jo Dae-su, head of Dongseo University’s LINC+ Project Group, said, “Since last year, we have been continuously conducting projects for regional retail changes starting with ‘Smart Retail V1.0,’” and added, “We will apply various technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution to fashion distribution to seek changes and development in retail and find ways to coexist.”
