Goheung-gun Successfully Concludes Online Sales Event for Agricultural and Marine Specialties in China

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Song Gwi-geun) announced on the 18th that it held the '1st Goheung Agricultural and Marine Specialties China Online Sales Competition Awards Ceremony' and the 'Chinese Artists Goheung' Exhibition commemorating the Year of Korea-China Cultural Exchange at the county office's Space Hall the day before.

Consul General Jang Cheong-gang of the Guangzhou Chinese Consulate General, Park Sang-chul, President of Honam University, Park Hong-jae, Director of the Agricultural Technology Institute, Song Young-hyun, Chairman of the Goheung County Council, and other key domestic and foreign guests, along with Chinese international students and officials participating in the competition, totaling about 70 people, attended to celebrate the successful conclusion of the 1st Goheung Agricultural and Marine Specialties China Online Sales Competition.

The sales competition, held for about a month from April 26 to May 30, involved 100 Chinese international students enrolled at Honam University, Chonnam National University, Chosun University, and Gwangju University. They competed by selling nine items of Goheung seaweed and citron products through personal pages on the Chinese online platform 'Weidian.'

The students achieved sales of approximately $27,000 over the month and garnered over 1.5 million views and more than 200,000 likes through local Chinese SNS, effectively promoting Goheung.

This competition was promoted as part of joint marketing after signing an agreement with JHE Global (CEO Lee Moon-geol) in October last year to strengthen the online non-face-to-face market, whose importance has increased due to COVID-19, and to enter the large Chinese online market.

At one side of the event venue, to commemorate the Year of Korea-China Cultural Exchange, Chinese artists were invited to exhibit artworks themed on 'Goheung,' and the Premium Package Design, promoted as a premiumization strategy for Chinese export products by the Citron Export Expansion Research Group (Director Kim Deok-hyun), attracted the attention of attendees.

Governor Song Gwi-geun said, "Thanks to the enthusiastic participation of the international students, the sales competition seems to have ended successfully," and added, "We will cooperate with partner companies and the Guangzhou Chinese Consulate General to help farmers struggling with exports due to COVID-19 and to target the Chinese online market, the largest market for Goheung agricultural and marine products exports."

A county official stated, "Based on the data obtained from this sales competition, we plan to improve the main products for the Chinese online market according to the demands of local Chinese consumers and utilize it in promotional marketing strategies."

Meanwhile, the Korea-China Cultural Exchange Year Chinese Artists 'Goheung' Exhibition is scheduled to be held for five days from the 21st to the 25th at the Chosun University Affiliated Art Museum.
