[Yeongam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Jeonnam Yeongam-gun (Governor Jeon Dong-pyeong) announced on the 18th that it has completed the conversion of cadastral survey location standards from the regional geodetic system to the global geodetic system in accordance with the "Act on the Establishment and Management of Spatial Information" on the 15th.

The "global geodetic system" is a coordinate system that serves as a common global location standard, using the Earth's center as the origin rather than a specific region, making it an international standard geodetic system without regional errors.

Korea has used cadastral records created based on the regional geodetic system (Japan Tokyo Datum) through the land survey project during the Japanese colonial period until now.

Compared to the global geodetic system, the regional geodetic system has a deviation of about 365 meters in the southeast direction, making it difficult to link with other spatial information and reducing its usability.

Accordingly, since 2016, the county has observed about 2,000 cadastral reference points in global geodetic system coordinates, secured common points for about 40 reference points, and completed the bulk conversion of cadastral records in the mapped area to the global geodetic system. They also plan to promote conversion for registered boundary point coordinate areas by the end of the year.

A county official stated, "With the completion of the global geodetic system coordinate conversion, our local cadastral records are now positioned in international standard coordinates," adding, "This will not only ensure the accuracy of cadastral surveys but also provide high-quality land-related civil services through convergence and fusion with other spatial information."
