Hamyang-gun, Baekjeon-myeon Seobaek Village 3rd Jangsu Village Selection Ceremony Announcement No. 3 Jangsu Village, Seobaek Village, Baekjeon-myeon, Hamyang-gun.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam, known as the land of immortality, selected Seobaek Village in Baekjeon-myeon as the Hamyang Longevity Village of 2021 and held a proclamation ceremony on the 16th.

The proclamation ceremony was held to publicly announce the creation of a healthy longevity village and a longevity-friendly environment, with about 150 attendees including Seo Chun-soo, Mayor of Hamyang-gun, Hwang Tae-jin, Chairman of the County Council, Kim Jae-woong, Provincial Assembly member, county council members, and village residents.

The Hamyang Longevity Village is one of the key campaign projects of Mayor Seo Chun-soo during the 7th local government term. It aims to select a model healthy village for the centenarian era, analyze factors contributing to healthy longevity, and promote a healthy and vibrant longevity culture that spreads throughout the local community to extend residents' healthy life expectancy.

At the longevity village proclamation ceremony, Seo Chun-soo, Mayor of Hamyang-gun, emphasized, “It is important that all village residents actively participate in health programs such as walking clubs and dietary improvements and practice them in daily life to live up to the name of a longevity village.” He added, “The county will also make efforts together with residents to become the best longevity village nationwide.”

Since the project briefing session in April, the Hamyang County Public Health Center has been conducting activities such as forming a health committee, surveying residents' health behaviors, measuring residents' physical fitness, dementia screening and prevention programs, and immortality exercise classes, receiving great responses from residents. They plan to continuously operate programs that can improve residents' poor eating habits and lifestyles and create a healthy environment by developing walking trails.

A resident who participated in the proclamation ceremony said, “The health center comes to the village to do health exercises together, solve puzzles, and play games. It’s really nice to have such events today as well.”

Kang Young-seok, the village chief, expressed gratitude to the health center officials, saying, “Residents who had been staying at home due to COVID-19 are regaining vitality in their lives by participating in health programs. It is touching to see them taking care of personal hygiene rules and quarantine measures to prevent COVID-19 while engaging with the residents.”

Meanwhile, Hamyang-gun proclaimed Changwon Village in Macheon-myeon as the first longevity village in 2019 and Oksan Village in Seosang-myeon as the second longevity village in 2020.
