[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 17th that the number of COVID-19 vaccine recipients in the area has exceeded 100,000.
As of the 16th, 104,862 people (23.7%) out of all eligible recipients aged 18 and over have completed the first dose, and 20,871 people (4.7%) have completed the second dose.
The city explained that vaccinations have been steadily continuing at an average of about 6,000 people per day at two vaccination centers and 100 designated medical institutions.
In particular, the vaccination rate for those aged 70 to 74 is the highest at 89.1%, and seniors aged 60 and over are currently undergoing vaccination at a rate of 73.6%, so the vaccination rate is expected to continue increasing.
Seniors who postponed vaccination due to health reasons or who did not consent to vaccination can still receive the vaccine if they agree by the 30th.
Recently, although a confirmed case occurred at a day care center in the Gimhae area, all were fully vaccinated, so no additional confirmed cases occurred, and daily life was maintained without self-quarantine.
Therefore, the city expects that by early July, when most second doses for seniors aged 75 and over and elderly facility workers are completed, face-to-face visits by family members, gatherings at senior centers, and religious activity meetings will be possible, and general citizens are even considering overseas travel, leading to a faster recovery of daily life.
Mayor Heo Seong-gon urged, "Seniors who have not yet agreed to vaccination can still get vaccinated until the end of June, so please actively participate in vaccination for a quick return to normal life."
