"Failure is an Asset for the Future, Not the Past" Busan Failure Expo Holds 'Failure Case Contest'

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan City is collecting ‘failures.’

Busan City (Mayor Park Hyung-jun) announced that it will hold a ‘Failure Case Contest’ from the 17th to the 21st as a re-challenge policy program of the 2021 Busan Failure Expo.

The ‘Failure Case Contest’ of the Busan Failure Expo is a program to collect actual failure cases from citizens to discover policy agendas.

Anyone can submit answers to three questions on the 2021 Busan Failure Expo website: ▲their own failure case ▲the cause of the failure case ▲institutional suggestions to solve it.

The submitted failure cases will be reviewed by experts, and 20 cases will be selected, from which the final 2 cases will be chosen.

The two selected failure cases will undergo a two-month deliberation discussion and be selected as policy proposals. Various prizes will also be awarded to the 20 contest participants selected through expert review.

The selected policy proposals will be finalized and announced after discussions with policy proposals from self-planned program participating organizations separately selected at the main event of the 2021 Busan Failure Expo held on August 31.

The final policy proposals selected by Busan City through this contest are expected to be linked to policies that citizens can experience through the Failure Expo performance sharing meeting hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in October this year.

Kim Kwang-hoe, Director of the Administrative Autonomy Bureau of Busan City, said, “This Failure Expo was planned from the perspective that failure is not the end but a valuable asset for a new beginning,” and added, “We hope that good agendas will be discovered and turned into policies through this contest.”

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s Failure Expo is an event held annually since 2018 to spread positive awareness of failure experiences and promote re-challenges, and this year marks its fourth edition.

Busan City was selected as the host city for the second consecutive year following last year. This year’s main event of the Busan Failure Expo is scheduled to be held as a non-face-to-face event at the Busan City Media Center on August 31.
