[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] SK Broadband announced on the 17th that it has become the first company in the domestic broadcasting and telecommunications industry to simultaneously obtain certification for the Environmental Management System (ISO 14001) and the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (ISO 45001) from the Korea Management Certification Institute. The Environmental Management System and Occupational Health and Safety Management System are the highest-level international certifications awarded to companies that prevent environmental issues and industrial accidents and systematically manage related risks.
Since January this year, SK Broadband formed a task force team to reorganize existing regulations and systems to obtain integrated certification for ISO 14001 and 45001. Based on external expert consulting, it secured specialized management capabilities related to environment and occupational health and safety. A representative example is the development of an integrated safety management system by collecting occupational health and safety-related laws and on-site inspection history management, thereby advancing the internal management infrastructure.
Additionally, while pursuing ISO certification, the entire workforce is conducting a company-wide environmental management campaign, including the ‘NO Plastic! GO ESG!’ campaign to reduce the use of plastics and disposable products. Efforts continue to expand voluntary participation and empathy among employees regarding ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management, such as sponsoring the Seoul Environmental Film Festival.
SK Broadband plans to strengthen its response system to environmental risks such as carbon emissions and minimize occupational health and safety issues such as employee accidents and the spread of infectious diseases, using this ISO certification as an opportunity.
Youngho Cho, SV Promotion Manager at SK Broadband, said, “Since declaring the expansion of ESG management activities this year, we have been strengthening risk management across all value chain processes of the company,” and added, “We will strive to increase stakeholders’ trust by transparently disclosing ESG-related information in the future.”
