Installation of 'Fine Dust Traffic Lights' at Two Locations Including Village Bus Stop in Front of Chung-Ang University Hospital

Dongjak-gu Offers Free Rental of Dust Suppression Spraying Equipment at Construction Sites, Prioritizing Heukseok-dong, a Fine Dust Safe Zone

Installation of 'Fine Dust Traffic Lights' at Two Locations Including Village Bus Stop in Front of Chung-Ang University Hospital

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) has installed fine dust traffic lights at two locations that provide real-time fine dust information.

The installation sites are the village bus stop in front of Chung-Ang University Hospital in Heukseok-dong (Heukseok-dong 224-8), designated as a fine dust safe zone, and Kkachisan Village Park in Sadang 5-dong (Sadang-dong San 32-56), which is frequently used by children and other fine dust vulnerable groups.

The fine dust traffic lights display data from the measurement points in real time through a simple measuring device, indicating four levels: blue (good), green (normal), yellow (bad), and red (very bad).

By showing detailed pollution levels in the form of traffic signal patterns, the air quality can be easily recognized by everyone from children to the elderly. The real-time display of air information is expected to help residents’ safety and health through prompt responses such as wearing masks.

Additionally, the district will lend spraying equipment that removes construction dust free of charge from June 10 to construction sites within the area.

The dust removal spraying equipment is a mobile wide-area sprinkler with a water tank that sprays fine water particles to remove dust dispersed in the air up to 30 meters.

The equipment will be lent first to construction sites in the fine dust safe zone of Heukseok-dong, with a lending period of up to one month, which can be extended if there are no waiting applicants.

For more details, inquiries can be made to the Clean Environment Division.

Moreover, last May, the district installed fine dust adsorption filters opposite Heukseok 3 District and plans to add a fine dust safe smart rest area at Isu Station in September.

Gwak Dong-yoon, head of the Clean Environment Division, said, “We will do our best to create an environment where residents can breathe comfortably through thorough fine dust reduction policies,” and added, “We hope residents will also participate in reducing fine dust by using public transportation or walking for short distances.”

Meanwhile, last year, the district received 300 million KRW in city funds to promote fine dust reduction projects including installing 18 window ventilation-type air purifiers at daycare centers and senior centers, installing fine dust adsorption filters on two sections from Chung-Ang University Hospital to Eunro Elementary School and opposite Heukseok Hangang Prugio Apartments on 92㎡ road railings, and producing a fine dust safe smart rest area at Exit 4 of Heukseok Station.
