Prosecutors Appeal 'Idol School' Vote Manipulation CP's 1-Year Prison Sentence

[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The prosecution has appealed the first trial verdict against Mnet's chief producer (CP) who was tried on charges of manipulating votes in the idol training program 'Idol School.'

According to the legal community on the 16th, the prosecution submitted an appeal to the court yesterday, dissatisfied with the first trial verdict against CP Kim.

CP Kim was indicted on charges of manipulating paid viewer votes for 'Idol School' from July to September 2017. On the 10th, Judge Lee Wonjoong of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 19 recognized Kim CP's guilt and sentenced him to one year in prison.

Kim CP was detained in court immediately after the sentencing, but Kim, the former head of Mnet's business division who was accused of partially participating in the vote manipulation, was fined 10 million won. At that time, the court pointed out, "The crime in this case seriously undermined the fairness of the broadcast program, damaged viewers' trust, and resulted in mocking the viewers and voters."
