[On-site Video] Lee Jae-myung vs Lee Jun-seok Fierce Debate on 'Operating Room CCTV Installation', What Is the Citizens' Opinion?

[Asia Economy Reporter Seunggon Han, PD Jingeun Yoon] "I think social consensus is necessary first." - A current doctor who requested anonymity

One of the most controversial bills in the June extraordinary session of the National Assembly is the 'Surgical Room CCTV Installation Bill.' The medical community is strongly opposed to it, and the People Power Party is also taking a cautious stance. In particular, on the 16th, a fierce debate took place between Lee Jae-myung, the governor of Gyeonggi Province and a leading presidential candidate of the ruling party, and Lee Jun-seok, the leader of the People Power Party, over this bill.

The medical community and citizens also have differing opinions on this bill. While there are concerns about privacy infringement such as personal information, there is also a counterargument that it can serve as a preventive measure to fundamentally prevent medical accidents.

A current doctor who requested anonymity raised their voice, saying, "I support the introduction of CCTV, but issues regarding the managing entity and costs must be resolved." They added, "According to the Information and Communications Network Act, personal information should be managed by a third party with no vested interest, but surgical room CCTV contains highly sensitive personal information such as the patient's body, so social consensus is needed regarding the designation of the managing entity and management costs."

On the other hand, a citizen has a different view. They argue that CCTV can be used as crucial evidence in legal disputes such as medical accidents. Office worker A (24) said, "I support the installation of CCTV," adding, "When a medical accident occurs, CCTV is the only tool that can definitively determine the cause of death."

Office worker B in their 20s emphasized, "Although there are concerns about rising medical costs, nothing is more precious than life, so I have no choice but to support it."

College student C (27) said, "The benefits of installing CCTV outweigh the side effects," adding, "Even if additional costs occur, I believe the gains from CCTV are greater."

Another college student D (21) emphasized, "Issues like patient video leaks or infringement on medical staff have not yet occurred and can be addressed with future safeguards, but problems that have already occurred (such as proxy surgery medical accidents) make surgical room CCTV installation the most certain alternative."
