Jangseong-gun Launches Full-Scale 'Chukryeongsan Sky Forest Trail Development Project'

[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Yoo Doo-seok) announced on the 16th that the “Chukryeongsan Sky Forest Trail Construction Project,” with a total budget of 4.4 billion KRW, will begin construction at the end of this month.

This project involves installing a “barrier-free sky deck trail” with convenience for viewing and a unique tourism element in the Chukryeongsan cypress forest.

The barrier-free deck trail is a wooden walkway designed with gentle slopes and no stairs, allowing elderly people and children to walk without burden.

What sets the Chukryeongsan Sky Forest Trail apart from other barrier-free deck trails is that it is constructed “within the forest” rather than just along a forest path.

Depending on the section, it will be installed up to 10 meters above the ground, allowing visitors to enjoy the magnificent forest scenery while walking. The area where the sky forest trail will be built is around Chuam-ri, Seosam-myeon, where a wooden bridge, observatory, and rest areas will also be installed.

Previously, the county started the basic and detailed design service at the end of 2019, followed by site surveys, formation and operation of a dedicated task force (TF team), village resident representative briefings and opinion collection, design service advisory meetings, and on-site reports to the county council.

After completing the detailed design last year, related permits and approvals, Jeollanam-do contract reviews, and contractor selection processes were completed, leading to the start of construction at the end of this month.

The total length of the deck trail is 860 meters, with completion targeted for next year.

The reason the Chukryeongsan Sky Forest Trail project is attracting attention is that it is not intended to remain a standalone project but has potential for linkage and expansion.

The county plans to connect the barrier-free forest trail from the upper well site of Chukryeongsan to the Jangseong Healing Forest Information Center with the sky forest trail, in conjunction with the Noryeongsan Range Recreation and Healing Belt Project (Chukryeongsan and Munsusan Space Re-creation Project) promoted by the Korea Forest Service.

Once the two forest trails are connected, Chukryeongsan will have approximately 2.9 km of barrier-free forest trails.

Governor Yoo Doo-seok said, “Chukryeongsan is the largest cypress plantation in Korea and has received much love, but it was necessary to develop tourism resources that keep pace with changing demands. Through this project, we will rediscover the value of Chukryeongsan and achieve regional economic revitalization and income generation for residents.”
