[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] SPC Group announced on the 16th that it has signed a 'Win-Win Agreement for Promoting Onion Consumption' with Muan County, Jeollanam-do, and will support local farmers in the Muan area.

This agreement is the fourth project following the Happy Win-Win Project, which began in September last year to help struggling local farmers, in line with SPC Group Chairman Hur Young-in's philosophy of win-win management. Previous projects included potatoes from Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do, carrots from Gujwa, Jeju Island, and strawberries from Nonsan.

This project was planned to assist Muan onion farmers who are facing difficulties due to price collapse caused by overproduction and challenges in securing sales channels this year.

Through the agreement, SPC Group plans to purchase 600 tons of onions produced by farmers in the Muan area annually.

Muan onions are characterized by their crispy texture and strong aroma, grown in high-quality yellow soil and exposed to sea breezes that prevent pests and diseases. SPC Group plans to introduce the Muan Onion Bread series, which captures the fresh taste and appearance of Muan's new onions, at Paris Baguette stores nationwide.

Additionally, a portion of the sales proceeds will be donated as scholarships for students in the Muan area of Jeollanam-do. SPC Group has previously provided scholarships to Pyeongchang in Gangwon-do, Jeju Island, and Nonsan City in Chungnam, where the Happy Win-Win Project was conducted.

An SPC Group official stated, “The Happy Win-Win Project is a shared value creation model where good quality products are made using our agricultural products, customers participate in value consumption, and local farmers coexist. We will continue the project to expand sales channels for our farmers and promote agricultural product consumption.”

Meanwhile, since 2008, SPC Group has signed MOUs with local farmers for products such as mini apples from Yeongcheon, garlic from Uiseong, and paprika from Gangjin, and has launched related products. In January 2014, it signed the 'Happy Co-Growth Agreement' with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to purchase 1 trillion won worth of domestic agricultural and livestock products, continuously striving for coexistence with farmers.
