[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Coupang is joining the 'Good Shuttle' service that supports the job activities of workers with disabilities. On the 15th, Coupang announced that it signed a business agreement for the Good Shuttle Alliance to promote mobility rights and employment of workers with severe disabilities together with SK Telecom, Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled, and others.
Good Shuttle is a shuttle bus service project aimed at resolving the mobility inconveniences experienced by workers with severe disabilities when commuting to and from work and supporting their economic independence. A total of seven companies and organizations participated in this agreement, including Coupang, SK Telecom, Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled, Research & Development Special Zone Promotion Foundation, Daejeon Creative Economy Innovation Center, Happy Connect, and Everyone's Shuttle.
SK Telecom is responsible for ICT technology, business planning, and management to expand the Good Shuttle service, while Coupang sponsors the service operation and supports the mobility of Coupang-affiliated workers with disabilities through Good Shuttle. Coupang plans to help revitalize the service by donating national subsidies received from hiring elderly workers to the Good Shuttle project. This fund is provided by the Ministry of Health and Welfare to companies that hire elderly workers aged 60 or older.
Along with the donation of subsidies, plans are underway to develop jobs that can create employment for socially vulnerable groups such as elderly and disabled workers and to introduce measures to sustain these jobs. Kim Gi-ryeong, Vice President of Human Resources at Coupang, said, "We will actively support the nationwide expansion of Good Shuttle, which has high social value," and added, "We will contribute to creating a virtuous cycle structure so that sustainable jobs can be provided to vulnerable employment groups."
