The 'Momdeundun Center' is a special childcare space unique to Yeongdeungpo where parents can feel reassured and children can feel comfortable. The 'Mom' in 'Momdeundun Center' stands for 'Mom's heart,' and currently, a total of five centers are in operation.
The 6th Momdeundun Center branch has received 200 million KRW in specialized project funds from Seoul City for people with disabilities and will be introduced as Seoul's first 'barrier-free integrated open playroom,' commencing full operation from the 22nd.
The 6th Momdeundun Center is a specialized childcare and care space unique to Yeongdeungpo-gu where all young children, regardless of disability, can play safely and joyfully.
Notable features include a 'barrier-free infant play zone' with no high thresholds, stairs, or obstacles on the floor to ensure children can safely play together; a 'Snoezelen Room (psychological stabilization room)' using multisensory devices to aid infant development and emotional stability; a nursing room and integrated restroom designed to be comfortable for children with disabilities.
The district plans to provide a safe play space for young children as well as operate various play and experience programs for parents and children to enjoy together.
These include ▲good parenting education ▲parent healing programs ▲support for self-help groups to alleviate parenting burdens, and newly established music therapy and Snoezelen (psychological stabilization) therapy programs for young children with disabilities.
Additionally, tailored programs reflecting local characteristics will be offered, such as providing childcare information and communication opportunities for multicultural family parents residing in Daerim-dong, and a Chinese storytelling program for young children from multicultural families.
The service is available to children aged five and under residing in Yeongdeungpo and their guardians.
Operating hours are from Tuesday to Friday, 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM. On Saturdays, it operates until 4:00 PM, and it is closed on public holidays and Mondays.
Usage requires prior application, which can be made through the district's Childcare Support Center website.
Yeongdeungpo Mayor Chae Hyun-il stated, “The 6th Momdeundun Center aims to provide experiences where children with and without disabilities can play together, thereby improving awareness of disabilities and supporting healthy growth of children. We will do our best to create an 'open' childcare environment where all children grow up healthy and happy without discrimination.”
