Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, Steps Up as 'Anything Consultation Desk' Counselor

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) held an inauguration ceremony for the ‘Anything Consultation Desk Promotion Team’ composed of 37 Seongsan 2-dong community leaders familiar with local affairs at the Seongsan 2-dong Community Service Center on the 4th to revitalize the ‘Anything Consultation Desk’.

On this day, Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun of Mapo-gu also served as a ‘One-day Consultant’ at the Seongsan 2-dong ‘Anything Consultation Desk,’ actively communicating with residents regarding various daily civil complaints.

The ‘Anything Consultation Desk’ is a core policy of the district, established and operated since February last year at 16 community service centers within the district and the Civil Affairs and Passport Division of the district office as an integrated communication desk.

It is a resident-centered project that not only handles various civil complaints such as welfare, housing, health, and disaster safety but also provides consultation on issues that are not under the district’s jurisdiction but are difficult for residents to resolve on their own, such as domestic violence, unemployment, and neighborhood disputes. All received matters are followed up, and if necessary, linked to case management as part of a ‘public total care system.’

To widely promote this ‘Anything Consultation Desk’ system, the district operates ‘One-day Consultants’ through talent donations from local human resources. Starting with the newly formed Anything Consultation Desk Promotion Team in Seongsan 2-dong, the district plans to expand the operation of promotion teams to all neighborhoods.

Mayor Yoo, who served as a ‘One-day Consultant’ at the Seongsan 2-dong Community Service Center on the 4th, said, “Although it was a short time, it was a rewarding experience to think and communicate together with residents. Especially in a situation where many residents are suffering economically and mentally due to COVID-19, we will support the ‘Anything Consultation Desk’ to play a greater role so that residents do not despair at the edge of a cliff because they cannot solve problems on their own.”

Through the ‘Anything Consultation Desk,’ the district has so far helped prevent major accidents by mediating agreements between neighbors regarding the cost of repairing collapsed walls, and assisted elderly residents suffering from hoarding disorder and residents suffering from domestic violence to start new lives.

The district also identified urgent cases of improving the living environment for elderly people living alone in old houses and provided temporary housing and home repairs. Recently, when the head of a family of five who was unemployed expressed difficulties, the district actively reviewed eligibility for support and crisis household assistance and derived a livelihood support plan to help them.

Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun of Mapo-gu said, “Going forward, together with the ‘Anything Consultation Desk Promotion Team,’ we will widely promote the ‘Anything Consultation Desk’ and realize warm-hearted administration that implements frontline administration without barriers, where neighbors in need can request help and we can think and solve all necessary matters together.”
