Free Home Repairs Including Wallpapering, Flooring Replacement, Insulation, and Window Reinforcement by Graduates of 'Jipsuri Academy'
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 16th that it will fully resume the operation of the ‘Jipsuri Practical Volunteer Group,’ composed of graduates from the Jipsuri Academy, starting this year. The Jipsuri Practical Volunteer Group had been operating since 2017 but was temporarily suspended last year due to the impact of COVID-19 and has now resumed this year.
The Jipsuri Practical Volunteer Group was launched in 2017 to apply the skills learned in the Seoul Jipsuri Academy’s practical training to the field and improve the living environments of socially vulnerable groups, including low-income households. Over the past three years, about 270 graduates of the Jipsuri Academy have directly participated, repairing the homes of 22 households. This year, approximately 500 participants plan to repair 20 homes. So far, 7 households have been repaired with the participation of about 170 people over 28 days.
The home repairs carried out by the ‘Jipsuri Practical Volunteer Group’ are comprehensive. In addition to wallpapering and replacing flooring to improve the living conditions of low-income residents living in aging homes, energy-efficient repairs such as insulation and window reinforcement are also conducted to reduce energy costs.
Yang Yong-taek, Acting Director of the Seoul Urban Regeneration Office, said, “The Jipsuri Practical Volunteer Group provides an opportunity for participants to give back to society by applying the skills they have learned and to acquire professional skills on-site. As demand for Jipsuri education is rapidly increasing, we will expand both the Jipsuri Academy training and volunteer group activities.”
