[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] The Samsung Compliance Committee announced on the 15th that it reviewed the status of labor-management negotiations at major Samsung affiliates, including Samsung Electronics.

On the same day, the Compliance Committee held a regular meeting at Samsung Life Seocho Tower in Seocho-gu, Seoul, and received reports on the status of labor unions and labor-management negotiations from HR representatives of seven affiliated companies, including Samsung Electronics, Samsung SDI, and Samsung Electro-Mechanics.

Since Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong of Samsung Electronics declared the abolition of the 'no union management' policy last year, Samsung Electronics has been conducting negotiations with the joint labor union negotiation group to conclude collective agreements since the end of last year. The Compliance Committee requested each affiliate to comply with relevant laws during future negotiations and to use this as an opportunity to establish a mutually cooperative labor-management culture.

However, Samsung Display, where the union is pushing for industrial action due to recent wage negotiation breakdowns, was excluded from the discussion as it is not an affiliate that has an agreement with the Compliance Committee.

In addition to labor issues, the Compliance Committee also received a report from the person in charge on the same day regarding the Samsung Welstory unfair support case, in which allegations of preferential treatment within the group were raised. Since the Fair Trade Commission is currently reviewing this case, the Compliance Committee stated that it will review the FTC's final conclusion and continue discussions depending on future developments.
