[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Juhee] A petition on the Blue House National Petition Board has been posted, expressing frustration that despite multiple sudden unintended acceleration incidents in electric vehicles, companies are blaming the drivers for the accidents.

On the 11th, a petition titled "Please clear the injustice against my father who almost died four times" was posted on the National Petition Board.

The petitioner introduced herself as "the daughter of a taxi driver with 30 years of experience, who has had no accidents for 40 years and even received a commendation from the National Police Agency," and claimed, "My father experienced sudden unintended acceleration four times over 20 months. He almost died four times in the car, but the company says it was all my father's fault."

According to the petitioner, the sudden unintended acceleration incidents her father experienced in electric vehicles occurred four times from October 2019 to recently. She said, "During the last accident, he sped uncontrollably for 1.5 km with my mother," adding, "My sister and I almost lost our parents that day. We feel very wronged and angry."

The petitioner also attached a link to the vehicle's black box footage showing the accident. The video captures a vehicle suddenly roaring and speeding down a road in Daegu on the 30th of last month.

The vehicle, driving in the far right lane, narrowly avoided surrounding cars while speeding for about 1.5 km, even hitting the side mirror of another car on its left. The driver struggled to stop the vehicle by rubbing against the curb of the pedestrian sidewalk, but the acceleration continued. Eventually, the car stopped only after hitting a streetlight.

The petitioner said, "Due to financial circumstances, we cannot change the car. My father is scared but continues to hold the steering wheel for the sake of the family," adding, "Nevertheless, the company ignores the issue, claiming they do not know about it. Our family bore all the accident costs."

She appealed, "We have no power against a company that blames the consumer. Please help us recover the consumer rights that our family has lost."
